Zen-On Maple Wood Shakuhachi "Kochiku"

Excellent beginner shakuhachi made of maple simulating bamboo in appearance. Excellent craftsmanship and tone. This is a new Zen-on Shakuhachi from Japan. It is a standard 1.8 Hassun length, pitched in the pentatonic minor mode of D, with a 5 finger holes and a Tozan-style mouthpiece. This instrument is made from maple with a fired wood grain that is visually stunning--the digital photos do not do it any justice. The bore is lacquered to protect it from the moisture in your breath. Wooden shakuhachis have notable benefits over bamboo ones. The bore can be cut for acoustic precision without having to pay thousands of dollars for hand-pasted bores. Further, the wood is not subject to cracking like bamboo. Zen-on shakuhachis are played and endorsed by professional, master players such as Katsuya Yokoyama and Hozan Yamamoto.

Utaguchi (mouthpiece) cover, fingering chart, cork grease and original box included. 1.8 is the standard length for Shakuhachis and the length you will need if taking lessons.
