Shugetsu High Quality
Jinashi and Jiari
Shakuhachi by Yamaguchi Shugetsu
Yamaguchi Shugetsu is one of the foremost makers of traditional shakuhachi based in Nara, Japan. He is well-known for his exceptionally high quality jiari and especially for his jinashi shakuhachi flutes.
Born in Fukui-ken (but now living in Nara), Japan, Shugetsu has been making shakuhachi for over 25 years. He trained under the reknowned shakuhachi master craftsman, Tamai Chikusen for 7 years before embarking on his own career. Yamaguchi makes all styles of shakuhachi (Tozan, Kinko, Meian) but specializes in extremely responsive and dynamic "Shugetsu" jinashi chokan shakuhachi (2.0-3.6 sizes) see selection below. These flutes are prime honkyoku/musical instruments. He has a busy schedule with many back orders so it is a great opportunity to here to purchase an authentic Shugetsu jinashi chokan shakuhachi. Some of his clients include: Katsuya Yokoyama, Riley Lee, Tadashi Tajima, and Dozan Fujiwara.
Shugetsu is very passionate about his art and tries his best to make the customer feel they are getting the best quality flute. Each flute comes with lifetime free service on minor repairs as well as complimentary beautiful silk/cotton, embroidered bag, and cleaning cloth (tsuyutoshi). To help facilitate with finding the best flute for you, Alcvin Takegawa Ramos works closely with Shugetsu to translate between Japanese and English and to sound the flute for you to insure the sound is right. Please email Alcvin (ramos@dccnet.com) for any questions regarding Shugetsu flutes.
