"If Ravi Shankar is the guardian of Indian classical music, Anoushka is certainly the successor to his throne, by virtue of ability alone."
- Dubai, February 2000

Anoushka Shankar's performances are notable for her joyous intensity and grace, as well as her astonishing technical command of the challenging 20-stringed instrument. The two-time Grammy Award nominee's Festival Vancouver performance will feature works from her most recent recording "Rise", Anoushka Shankar's fourth album for Angel Records.

Joining Anoushka on her "Rise" Tour is an ensemble of 10 virtuoso Eastern and Western musicians, including tabla master Tanmoy Bose. Wielding a variety of both acoustic and electronic instruments, they often engage in unexpected ways to create tantalizing new sounds, resulting in a stunning and evocative show.

As her solo career continues to blossom, it seems she is poised to carry forward her father's legacy as one of the most creative and influential figures in the music world.

Opening for Anoushka Shankar is Dharmakasa, an innovative trio which uses a rich palette of traditional and invented instruments, including the Japanese flute, Australian didgeridoo, Eastern hand percussion, and the original cello-kalimba.
